Skaters —
We spent our first evening in Vernazza watching street life around the harbor. These kids, clearly locals, were making the most out of the small confines of their city — they’d race up and down the breakwater on their rollerblades, heedless of the hordes of tourists. They’re clearly aware that many of the vacationers in their way don’t speak Italian, and didn’t seem to bother with any verbal warning beyond an incoherent scream.
I’m honestly amazed that they or some hapless visitor hadn’t ended up in the harbor. But it was refreshing to see that even in the middle of tourist-central, there are still normal local kids, doing normal kid things.
