Cortona —
Looking out from Cortona to the valley below.
Cortona is perhaps best known in the United States as the city in which Under the Tuscan Sun takes place, but really has its own quiet beauty. It’s perched up on the hill overlooking the valley, on the Southeast corner of Tuscany, almost into Umbria.
I feel this was possibly our most relaxing day on our Honeymoon — perhaps because rather than trying to see every last thing we couldn’t get to in Tuscany, we’d resigned ourselves to leaving much unseen for a future vacation, and instead spent the day wandering the streets of Cortona before heading to Cinque Terre in the morning.
