Tiger Lily

Tiger Lily

Tiger Lily outside the house we stayed at in Door County.

Whether it’s due to a psychological projection of my own introverted nature on others and hence a reluctance to intrude, or simply my inexperience with candid photography or portraiture, I’m not particularly comfortable photographing people. And since so much of my recent photo activity has been nature/macro (for as much as zoo animals count as nature, I guess), even with all the great people-watching in Door County it was very easy to notice all the flowers and jump back into what I better understand and have more skill at: macro photography.

I did change-it-up, however. Most of my macro photography so far has been hand-held — problematic if I want natural light macro with good depth-of-field. Because I had the tripod along on our Door County trip, and there were flowers everywhere, I decided to pull the tripod out for some natural-light macro photography!

I was quite pleased with the results. These Lilies were everywhere in Door County (they even seemed to grow like weeds by the side of the highway), and seemed like a perfect opportunity for some macro work during the trip.
