Camaldoli Cat

Camaldoli Cat

We arrived at the monastery town of Camaldoli and observed a monk emerge from the monastery complex and deposit some food into a tin, which was then ferociously consumed by several local cats. Closer inspection of the tin revealed the food to be some type of pasta — appropriate, I suppose, given these were Italian cats…

After briefly exploring the monastery, we stopped to eat our own meal on these stone steps, beneath a fountain. Our cheese and salami were effective lures, and we soon had some new best friends, though only one of them was really into public displays of affection. They were generally inquisitive and were willing to pose for the camera, as long as I didn’t move too suddenly or get too close.
