Self Portrait —
I’m trying to get some experience with multi-source, off-camera light. I don’t keep many interesting knick-knacks around the house to photograph, and in any case I’m curious to try taking portraits. However, asking somebody else to pose is like pulling teeth — mine, in fact.
I don’t consider myself particularly photogenic. I need to lose a pound or twenty, I hate being asked for wide-mouthed smiles, and I always end up with my head cocked slightly to one side… But I’m a sucker for these things when I bother to ask. Plus, I tend to keep the same hours as myself; models for impromptu portrait sessions are hard to come by at 1AM.
So here I am, in self portraits. But since I’m so enamored with myself, I often fail to look through the camera long enough to focus correctly; many of the photos have some focus problems. And I’ve discovered that I’m not good at taking directions — or was it giving them? Somehow I ended up in a shouting match…
