Our June visit was late for Lady’s Slippers, but we managed to find a few late-bloomers… This one is a Showy Lady’s Slipper, also known as a Pink and White Lady’s Slipper, and is the state flower of Minnesota.
Amazing what you can learn from Wikipedia — I never knew that Lady’s Slippers are a type of orchid, and apparently this type can live for up to 50 years, and typically will not bloom until it’s 15th year!
